Unroll and flatten background film. Measure length (L) and height (H) of glass aquarium panel. (If you have framed aquarium don’t include the plastic frame.) Lightly mark cutting lines with pencil.
Tip: It's always better to go slightly (1/2" or 1") over the real dimension at this stage and not risk cutting the film smaller than the back glass.
Using sharp scissors, carefully cut background film to size. You can also use a razor blade & straight edge to cut/trim.
Clean glass panel. Remove any hang-on filters or other accessories from back of aquarium.
Use a cloth/sponge and freshwater & clean back glass panel. ( no chemicals or cleaning supplies)
Leave the glass as damp as possible after this stage.
Remove corner of the backing and stick to top corner of aquarium. Peel clear film backing and apply background to wet glass. The smooth side of the textured/frosted/thicker layer will go on the aquarium glass.
Using more water on glass back while installing the film will make positioning easier. If the back glass has dried by the time you peeled off the protective cover, it will be helpful to wet the back glass one more time.
Use your hand to position the film and remove any large air bubbles.
Tip: Align the straightest edges ( edges that were cut from factory, not the edges you cut in STEP 2) of the film with the edges of the aquarium.
The two edges ( 1 short, 1 long) you cut in STEP 2 (which are the imperfect edges) should be the edges that you have little excess over the glass after positioning the film.
Squeeze out water and air bubbles with a smooth tool (such as a at ruler or credit card.) Check for tiny air bubbles from both sides of the glass. If there are tiny bubbles, do more squeegeeing.
Final Trim the edges you have excess film.
Caution: Make sure you do not risk cutting into the aquarium silicone as you trim the film.
You can now install your background light and enjoy the colors on the back glass of your aquarium.
Film sticks to the glass by static cling, no adhesives are used, whenever you want to remove it, it wont leave any residue.
